The Governing Board of the Katsina State Safety and Road Traffic Authority (KASSAROTA) has undertaken a working visit to Danja and Malumfashi Local Government Areas to assess the performance, welfare and operational challenges of its personnel at the grassroots.
The visit was led by the Board Chairman and former Director General of the Authority, retired Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Danlami Yar’adua, mni.
Other board members on the delegation include the retired Commissioner of Police Alhaji Sulaiman Ketare, Alhaji Gambo Mashi and retired CP Ladodo.
Also part of the delegation were the management team including the Director General of KASSAROTA, retired Major Garba Yahaya Rimi (Tafidan Kauran Katsina), the Secretary of the Authority, Aminu Lawal Batsari, the State Commandant, Dahiru Mani Bagiwa, the Director of Finance and Accounts, Lawal Mamman, the Funtua Zonal Commandant, Mustapha Garba Matazu, and the Public Relations Officer, Abubakar Marwana Kofar Sauri.
Speaking at the Danja Local Government Secretariat, the Board Chairman, retired AIG Danlami Yar’adua said the visit was aimed at evaluating the working conditions of KASSAROTA personnel and the effectiveness of their operations at the Local Government level.
He stressed the need for stronger collaboration between KASSAROTA and other security agencies, while urging officers to maintain professionalism, good conduct and courtesy in dealing with the public.
The Board Chairman reminded the officers that they are public servants mandated to serve the people, not to intimidate them.
In response to issues raised by officers during the visit, the Secretary of the Authority, Aminu Lawal Batsari, alongside other board members, encouraged them to remain committed and diligent.
During the visit, the Board also appealed to the Chairman of Danja Local Government, Alhaji Rabo Tambaya Danja, to rehabilitate and provide office accommodation for KASSAROTA personnel in the area to enhance their efficiency.
In his remarks, the Director General of KASSAROTA, retired Major Garba Yahaya Rimi, emphasized the critical role of the Authority in maintaining safety and security, and appealed for the inclusion of KASSAROTA officers in local security meetings to boost their exposure and operational capacity.
Responding, the Danja Local Government Chairman, Alhaji Rabo Tambaya, acknowledged public complaints bordering on excessive fines and lack of consideration by some officers, calling for improved training and retraining.
He attributed the lack of office accommodation to financial constraints but assured that the council would provide an office as revenue improves.
The delegation also paid a courtesy visit to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) office in Danja, headed by Commandant Ibrahim Adamu Barde.
At Malumfashi, the Board visited the office of the Area Commander of Police, where the Board Chairman retired AIG Danlami Yar’adua called for sustained cooperation between the Nigeria Police Force and KASSAROTA to strengthen public safety.
In his response, the Area Commander, Ibrahim Aliyu Isa, attributed the relative peace in the area to successful peace agreements with bandits and described the police and KASSAROTA as partners in progress.
He cautioned KASSAROTA personnel against high-handedness and assured them of police support when necessary.
The visit concluded at the KASSAROTA office in Malumfashi, where the Board commended the officers for their dedication and urged them to remain professional and committed to their duties.
